The Ministry of Culture announced on March 29 that more than 200 youth football players from the junior divisions and reserve teams of Alianza Lima and Universitario de Deportes are taking part in training sessions aimed at preventing racism in football and promoting respect for cultural diversity.
These activities are led by the Directorate of Cultural Diversity and Elimination of Racial Discrimination under the Vice Ministry of Interculturality. The program is part of the campaign “We share passion, we share respect. No to racism!” It aims to strengthen recognition of Peru’s cultural plurality while encouraging sports practices based on respect and inclusion.
At Alianza Lima, training sessions were held at Alejandro Villanueva Stadium in La Victoria district, with nearly 100 female players from Under-12, Under-14, Under-16, and Under-18 categories participating. Informational sessions were also organized for parents.
In parallel, similar actions are being carried out with male youth divisions at Universitario de Deportes’ VIDU facility in Lurín district. These include both junior teams and reserve squads.
During the first quarter of this year, the Ministry coordinated with the Peruvian Sports Institute (IPD) and the Professional Football League to continue developing preventive measures against racism. This includes ongoing training programs as well as awareness activities during official matches.
So far this year, twelve awareness events have been held at Alejandro Villanueva Stadium (La Victoria), Miguel Grau Stadium (Callao), and Monumental U – Marathon Stadium (Ate) to promote a culture of respect within football.
