The Ministry of Culture and the Instituto de Educación Superior Tecnológico Privado Peruano de Cine y Creatividad (EPIC) signed a cooperation agreement on March 21 to strengthen the skills of professionals in the film and audiovisual sector in Peru.
The five-year agreement aims to increase opportunities for professional development in the film industry by organizing joint academic activities, training programs, and calls for applications that will grant seven annual scholarships to students and creators. Beneficiaries will have access to specialized infrastructure and modern technology, including filming studios, editing rooms, and production equipment, which is expected to raise the technical level of Peruvian audiovisual production.
During the signing ceremony, Carina Moreno Baca, Director General of Cultural Industries and Arts at the Ministry of Culture, said that funding for Peruvian cinema has grown steadily over the past decade through economic stimulus policies for culture. She stated: “El mercado audiovisual peruano demandará cada vez más técnicos y profesionales del audiovisual capaces de traducir en imágenes y sonoridades las ideas que directores y productores conciben para contar historias.”
Moreno Baca also said that professionalizing the sector creates better job opportunities for new generations of technicians, artists, and filmmakers in Peru. Roger Amuruz, promoter of EPIC, said that this cooperation marks the beginning of a strategic alliance that highlights the importance of collaboration between private educational institutions and public cultural agencies to drive creative industries forward.
The event took place at the central headquarters of the Ministry of Culture with participation from Erika Chávez, director of Audiovisuals; Richard Dulanto, general manager of EPIC; Katherin Figueroa; and Jessica Dulanto Vega.
EPIC is recognized as Peru’s first professional film institute. Its faculty includes experienced professionals from the sector. The academic approach emphasizes practical learning, critical thinking development, and technical skills needed for cinematic storytelling.
