More than 400 Indigenous, native, and Afro-Peruvian women are now part of the National Network of Indigenous, Native, and Afro-Peruvian Women Entrepreneurs (Red MIA), according to a March 14 announcement from the Ministry of Culture. The initiative aims to support these women in developing their businesses and promoting economic independence.
The Red MIA platform helps participants strengthen business skills, showcase traditional products and knowledge, and access new market opportunities at local, regional, and national levels. The Ministry said that through this network, members can expand their contacts and promote their products in various promotional spaces.
Ricardo García, Director of the Directorate of Indigenous Policies at the Ministry of Culture, said: “Las mujeres acceden a capacitaciones en emprendimiento, liderazgo y desarrollo integral; participan en ferias, eventos y expo-ventas; difunden sus productos en distintos espacios del país; se articulan con otras emprendedoras y ponen en valor los conocimientos tradicionales que forman parte de su identidad cultural.”
The Ministry described Red MIA as a space for meeting, learning, and economic promotion that contributes to empowering Indigenous or native and Afro-Peruvian women. It also recognizes their important role in passing on traditional knowledge, supporting community development, and building a more inclusive society.
Women interested in joining Red MIA can register online. More information about the network is available through official channels.
