The Ministry of Culture announced on Mar. 31 that it has honored six prominent figures in Peruvian theater with the title “Meritorious Personality of Culture.” The recognition was given during events marking World Theatre Day, which is celebrated each year on March 27.
This recognition highlights the importance of theater as a key cultural expression and acknowledges individuals who have made significant contributions to the development and promotion of performing arts in Peru.
Doris Ysabel Guillén Delgado and Edgar Andrés Saba Salomón received individual distinctions for their outstanding careers. Guillén was recognized for her work as an actress, director, teacher, and cultural manager, as well as her role in founding the Asociación Cultural Artescénica. Saba was honored for his achievements as a stage director, playwright, and cultural manager committed to promoting theater.
Members of the Yuyachkani cultural group—Augusto Américo Casafranca Cortéz, Carlos Julián Vargas Arellano, Débora Sara Correa Benites, and María Rebeca Ralli Mejía—were also recognized. The ministry cited their valuable contributions to strengthening and spreading performing arts through collective creation focused on memory and identity.
The Ministry said these recognitions reaffirm its commitment to valuing artistic careers that enrich national culture and support diverse forms of performing arts. Previous recipients from Yuyachkani include Ana Correa (2012) and Teresa Ralli (2024).
World Theatre Day was established in 1961 by the International Theatre Institute.
