The Ministry of Culture of Peru announced on April 8 that the Museum of Anthropology, Archaeology and Natural History of Ranrahirca and the National Chavín Museum in Áncash have received the TUR4All Tourism Accessibility Distinction from the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism. The recognition was given as part of the Social Tourism initiative.

This distinction certifies that both museums meet standards aimed at making tourism more accessible and inclusive, improving visits for people with disabilities, older adults, and others with specific accessibility needs. The ministry said this achievement highlights a commitment to ensuring equal access to cultural spaces, which supports full cultural rights for all citizens.

“This recognition certifies the fulfillment of standards oriented towards promoting a more accessible and inclusive tourist offer, improving the visiting experience for people with disabilities, elderly people, and other groups with specific accessibility needs,” said the Ministry of Culture. “It also highlights both museums’ commitment to implementing measures that guarantee equitable access to cultural spaces, contributing to the full exercise of citizens’ cultural rights.”

The ministry added that this progress is an example of cooperation between sectors working together toward responsible tourism in Áncash. “This achievement values joint work between sectors to promote responsible tourism with a social focus in Áncash,” said officials.

The Ministry of Culture fosters social inclusion by protecting heritage and promoting diversity across Peru according to its official website. It uses decentralized facilities such as regional museums alongside its San Borja headquarters to support programs throughout Peru according to official information. As an autonomous ministry within Peru’s Executive Branch according to government sources, it promotes cultural identity while combating discrimination and racism through intercultural dialogue initiatives as stated on its website.

Created in 2010, the Ministerio de Cultura del Perú oversees national policy on culture while encouraging diversity through heritage preservation projects and supporting social inclusion efforts according to official information.
