The Ministry of Culture of Peru organized a poetry and music evening in San Martín to mark the Day of the Peruvian Poet, according to an April 20 announcement. The event took place on April 17 at the facilities of the Decentralized Directorate of Culture (DDC) in San Martín, in coordination with the Luis Hernán Ramírez Mendoza Cultural Association.
The initiative aimed to promote literary expression and strengthen cultural identity among local communities. It brought together poets from across the region, interested citizens, and students from Colegio de Alto Rendimiento (COAR) San Martín. The program opened with a theatrical performance based on César Vallejo’s poem “Los heraldos negros,” followed by poetry readings from writers including Frank Donayre, Lenin Pérez, Marden Gonzales, and Fernando Villanueva.
Musician Mauricio Soto performed during the gathering, contributing to what organizers described as an emotional atmosphere. Attendees were also invited to recite their own poems and participate in a creative exercise called “Cadáver exquisito,” led by Leslie Arribasplata.
According to its official website, the Ministry of Culture fosters social inclusion by protecting heritage and promoting diversity throughout Peru. The ministry operates decentralized facilities and museums alongside its main headquarters in San Borja to support such programs. As part of the Executive Branch, it functions as an autonomous ministry under ministerial leadership.
The Ministry oversees national cultural policy while safeguarding heritage and encouraging intercultural dialogue and diversity according to its official website. Established in 2010, it advances initiatives that support social inclusion and national identity through heritage preservation and development within cultural industries.
