The Ministry of Culture of Peru announced on May 4 that it will inaugurate the exhibition “Creaciones imaginarias, realidades animadas” on May 7. The retrospective will explore the development of Peruvian animation from 1970 to 2024 and will be open to the public in the Sala Mochica at its central headquarters until May 31, Tuesday through Sunday, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
The exhibition aims to promote knowledge and reflection about animation in Peru by highlighting its historical evolution, thematic diversity, creative processes, and significance as part of the country’s audiovisual memory. Visitors can experience a historical journey through audiovisual materials, documents, sketches, storyboards, models, and immersive experiences in both 2D and 3D formats. The combination of historic pieces with technological resources creates an interactive space designed for all ages.
The event covers the beginnings of Peruvian animation through its advertising sector influence and examines how cultural policies and economic incentives have led to more than forty animated works being produced in recent years. As part of its programming, a film series titled “El Perú animado: Imágenes en transformación” will take place from May 21 to May 24 at the Armando Robles Godoy cinema hall within the ministry’s main building. Audiences can view selected Peruvian animated short films and feature films; details about showtimes will soon be available on dafo.cultura.pe.
According to the official website, the Ministry fosters social inclusion by protecting heritage and promoting diversity across Peru.
