The Ministry of Culture announced on March 25 the appointment of Mayella Lloclla, Sofía Carrillo Zegarra, José Miguel Vidal, and Ronin Koshi as ambassadors for the “Alerta contra el Racismo” service. The four representatives come from different fields: Lloclla is an actress, Carrillo Zegarra is a journalist, Vidal is a researcher and teacher, and Koshi is a Shipibo-Konibo artist known for promoting kené art nationally and internationally.
The ministry said these ambassadors will help raise awareness about ethnic-racial discrimination in Peru and encourage use of the “Alerta contra el Racismo” platform. This free service offers guidance and allows people to report cases of discrimination.
The announcement was made during the discussion event “Hablemos de Racismo,” organized by the Directorate of Cultural Diversity and Elimination of Racial Discrimination at the ministry’s headquarters. The event brought together activists and experts to reflect on how lack of appreciation for cultural diversity remains a public issue in Peru.
During his remarks at the event, Vice Minister Percy Barranzuela Bombilla said: “El racismo existe y duele. Hablar de él no es opcional; es un primer paso para transformarlo. No hay proyecto país posible sin respeto a nuestra identidad. Desde el Ministerio de Cultura estamos comprometidos a abordarlo y avanzar, reconociendo el trabajo de activistas y embajadores como los que hoy están presentes, que día a día nos enseñan que la lucha contra el racismo es colectiva, estructural y necesaria para un Perú inclusivo.”
The “Alerta contra el Racismo” service provides legal guidance through six communication channels including phone line 1817, WhatsApp at 976 079 336, the state web platform, Ministry social media accounts, email alertacontraelracismo@cultura.gob.pe, as well as physical or virtual submissions at both central offices and regional culture directorates.
