The Ministry of Culture announced on March 30 the publication of its Annual Economic Stimulus Plan, which will allocate more than S/ 29.5 million to support audiovisual creation across Peru.

This initiative aims to boost the development, production, and post-production of both short and feature-length fiction and documentary films. It also includes support for projects planning international co-productions. Completed films will be able to apply for funding aimed at national distribution and circulation, while works participating in international festivals or development spaces may seek support through a separate call for international promotion.

The plan provides financing not only for film projects but also for initiatives related to cultural management within the audiovisual sector, preservation of national cinematography, research in audiovisual matters, video game development, and animation projects at various stages. Additionally, an award will recognize Peruvian filmmakers who have made significant contributions to the sector.

A key change this year is that the plan operates under Law No. 32309, which reserves at least 40% of resources for projects from regions outside Lima Metropolitana and Callao. This measure seeks to decentralize funding and promote greater diversity within Peruvian cinema.

The first set of guidelines will be published in April. Applicants must check whether their chosen stimulus is open to individuals or legal entities; all applicants must be registered with RENCA (Registro Nacional de la Cinematográfica y el Audiovisual), a process that can be completed online free of charge. Restrictions include barring legal entities who received consecutive benefits in 2024 and 2025 from applying again in 2026 as well as those with outstanding obligations from previous years’ grants.

All applications are free and processed online via the ministry’s virtual platform. According to the Ministry of Culture’s statement, “Through its policy on Economic Stimuli, it promotes industry growth by supporting job creation, economic activity stimulation, and dissemination of Peru’s geographic and cultural diversity.”
