The Ministry of Culture, through the Decentralized Directorate of Culture (DDC) Lambayeque, announced on March 19 the signing of a Social Pact with the National Jury of Elections (JNE). The agreement aims to strengthen democracy and governance ahead of the upcoming General Elections scheduled for April 12.
The initiative includes workshops for citizens who identify as Afro-Peruvian in Capote, Picsi district, and for indigenous or native citizens in Cañaris, Ferreñafe province. These workshops are designed to promote informed voting and ensure full exercise of civic rights among these communities.
“With the signing of this Social Pact, we take on an institutional commitment not only to strengthen informed voting but also to reinforce civic engagement in our region and contribute to building a better nation,” said Carlos Wester La Torre, director of DDC Lambayeque.
The event was attended by Edilberto Rodríguez Tanta, president of the Special Electoral Jury (JEE) of Lambayeque; Luis Piscoya Montalván, second titular member of JEE Chiclayo; Carlos Wester La Torre; and other sector officials.
Prior to the signing ceremony, an interculturality workshop was held for public servants from the Special Electoral Juries of Chiclayo and Lambayeque, as well as representatives from the Ministry of Interior and the Secretariat for Social Management and Dialogue under the Presidency of the Council of Ministers. The workshop aimed to promote recognition of cultural diversity and guarantee rights for indigenous peoples and Afro-Peruvians in Lambayeque.
The DDC Lambayeque stated it will continue working with local governments and both public and private entities to further strengthen political participation and intercultural democracy among indigenous and Afro-Peruvian populations in the region.
