The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism highlighted on Apr. 24 the collaboration between public and private sectors in developing La Ruta de León in Piura, during a recent technical meeting aimed at strengthening the route in the region.
This initiative is significant as it brings together government officials from all levels, church representatives, and business leaders to coordinate efforts that improve visitor experiences along the route. The technical session focused on reporting progress and planning strategic actions to enhance tourism infrastructure.
“The advances presented today evidence a sustained effort initiated since May of 2025, which was strengthened with the installation of this technical committee, the development of a consensual work plan, and technical support aimed at enhancing the tourist experience,” said Aracelly Laca, Vice Minister of Tourism. Laca also acknowledged donations from companies CIVA and Caja Piura totaling approximately S/200,000 to improve infrastructure at local parishes.
“These actions demonstrate that public-private coordination is fundamental for tourism development,” Laca said. She reaffirmed her ministry’s commitment to continue supporting recovery and improvement efforts for tourist resources linked to Robert Francis Prevost’s pastoral mission. “La Ruta de León in Piura not only represents a tourist route but an opportunity to highlight our identity, strengthen cultural heritage, and generate economic development for local communities,” she said.
According to the official website, the Ministry contributes to cultural progress by fostering sustainable tourism and social inclusion throughout Peru. In Piura, La Ruta de León consists of six main sites such as Parroquia San José Obrero and Parroquia Catedral Sagrada Familia de Chulucanas alongside two complementary attractions: Pueblo Artesanal La Encantada and Pueblo de la Cruz Pampa – Yapatera. Coordination continues on creating an interpretive script for visitors along this route tied closely with regions associated with Pope León XIV.
