The Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation announced on Apr. 25 that it has provided more than S/ 3 million in AgroPerú Fund credits this year to agricultural organizations in Madre de Dios. The funding aims to modernize cacao production, strengthen livestock capacity, and improve access to formal financing for rural communities.
This initiative is intended to boost the economy of the southern jungle region by supporting key agricultural cooperatives. The ministry said these resources are being distributed through Agrobanco, benefiting groups such as Cooperativa Agraria Cacao Fino Agrobosque, Cooperativa Agroindustrial de la Interoceánica Limitada (COOPAIDI), and Asociación de Productores de Cacao San Francisco.
Felipe Meza Millán, Minister of Agricultural Development and Irrigation, said during an official event at Agrobanco’s Tambopata office: “Este financiamiento no es solo una cifra; es una apuesta por el futuro de las familias rurales. Queremos que pasen de una agricultura de subsistencia a una comercialización competitiva, mejorando sus procesos de acopio y almacenamiento.” He also highlighted that the AgroPerú Fund has become a main tool for financial inclusion among small producers.
According to Meza Millán, the regional goal is to improve cacao quality for both export and domestic consumption. Nationally, more than 14 thousand loans have been granted through this fund, totaling over S/ 226 million. These funds are used for agricultural campaigns, purchasing quality supplies, and forest development.
The ministry promotes cultural and social well-being through rural inclusion and food security efforts according to the official website. As part of his visit, Meza Millán met with regional government officials and representatives from local agricultural agencies. They discussed technical measures aimed at speeding up agrarian services and advancing local projects. At a later event closing out a national convention on governmental accounting (GUBER 2026), Meza Millán said: “una administración eficiente de los recursos públicos es clave para una gestión moderna y transparente, que permita cerrar brechas y generar mayores oportunidades para los productores agrarios”.
