The Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Defense carried out a joint health intervention in the Los Ángeles settlement, Alto Saposoa district, Huallaga, providing more than 800 health services between April 11 and April 16. The initiative included administering 580 vaccine doses and offering 230 medical consultations to residents.

The effort aimed to close gaps in healthcare access for remote communities. Teams ensured national vaccination coverage, identified pregnant women without previous check-ups, and addressed various public health concerns.

During the intervention, two cases of anemia were detected among pregnant women, as well as four expectant mothers who had not received prenatal care. The teams also monitored for possible cases of dengue fever, leishmaniasis, and pertussis (whooping cough), aiming to protect this vulnerable population from communicable diseases by providing education on prevention measures.

Health workers collected ten samples for pertussis testing and identified over ninety contacts within a community known for frequent gatherings such as religious events and school attendance. Those exposed received prophylactic treatment with azithromycin along with guidance on preventive actions and warning signs to watch for.

Additionally, educational activities focused on preventing non-communicable diseases were provided. One patient was being monitored for probable dengue without warning signs according to current guidelines. Reports about potential leishmaniasis cases were received—requiring further epidemiological verification—and snakebite incidents in the area were also noted.

Officials said that coordinated efforts between the ministries strengthen state presence in hard-to-reach areas by mobilizing resources effectively. They added that these interventions help ensure timely preventive healthcare reaches communities like Los Ángeles while supporting national wellbeing.
