Minister of Energy and Mines Waldir Ayasta inspected the progress of the expansion project at the Chiclayo Norte Transmission Substation during a visit to Chiclayo, according to an April 25 announcement. The project aims to strengthen electricity service in the Lambayeque region.

The modernization work is designed to improve efficiency, continuity, and safety of electric service in line with sustainable development policies for Peru’s electricity sector. The substation upgrade is being carried out by Electronorte with an investment exceeding S/16 million and is expected to be completed in the second half of 2026.

The project will replace a 17.5 MVA transformer with a new 30 MVA unit, which will increase capacity, reduce overloads, and minimize interruptions for a more stable supply during peak hours. Additional upgrades include new medium-voltage (10 kV) cells that enable faster fault detection and quicker restoration after outages.

Ayasta was joined during the inspection by Ángel Pejerrey, regional manager of Electronorte, as well as the company’s head of transmission. The collaboration between government authorities and energy companies was reaffirmed during this event.
