The Minister of Transport and Communications, Aldo Prieto, met with Congresswoman Ana Zegarra on March 26 to discuss strategic projects aimed at strengthening connectivity in the Loreto region. The agenda included plans for airport rehabilitation, bridge modernization, and improvements to local roads to support economic and social development.

Efforts will focus on the rehabilitation of Yurimaguas Airport. Planned upgrades include repairs to the runway, taxiway, aircraft apron, installation of a new drainage system, and construction of a perimeter fence. These improvements are expected to allow operations for aircraft with capacities between 80 and 90 passengers and expand flight offerings in the area.

Work is set to begin soon after a supervision team is assigned to ensure safety and quality standards are met. The investment exceeds S/ 92 million. An official handover ceremony for the site is scheduled for March 31, marking the start of construction.

In parallel, a comprehensive modernization project will be carried out at Caballococha Aerodrome in Ramón Castilla district with an investment exceeding S/ 87 million. This project involves renewing the runway, taxiway, aircraft apron, among other interventions.

During their meeting, Prieto and Zegarra also discussed upgrading bridges and local roads such as those along Félix Flores–Palestina–Saramiriza as well as Cotoyaquillo, Candado, Paboyacu, Musmuqui, Cunchiyacu bridges among others. These works aim to improve connectivity for isolated communities in Alto Amazonas and Mariscal Ramón Castilla districts while supporting social and economic sustainability.
