The Minister of Housing, Construction and Sanitation, Wilder Sifuentes Quilcate, continued on March 15 to oversee the response efforts in Ayabaca province, where recent heavy rains have impacted local families.
The ongoing actions are aimed at supporting residents who lost their homes due to landslides caused by the intense rainfall. The minister visited a temporary shelter set up at the former INPE facility, where twelve families displaced from Arequipa Street are currently staying after losing their homes.
During his visit, Sifuentes Quilcate spoke with those affected to assess their current situation and review the conditions of assistance being provided. He explained that registered families will be eligible for the Emergency Rental Subsidy (BAE), which provides a monthly payment of 500 soles for up to two years so they can rent safe housing while recovering from the emergency. “We are making rounds to gather all necessary information so we can deliver all needed aid to the people of Ayabaca. Machinery is being deployed from various sectors and from the Housing sector we will provide Emergency Rental Subsidies of 500 soles for those whose homes have been damaged or rendered uninhabitable,” said Sifuentes Quilcate.
Later, the minister conducted an aerial survey over areas most affected by the rains to evaluate damage and improve coordination among response teams. He was joined by Vice Minister of Construction and Sanitation Luis Contreras, Ayabaca Mayor Darwin Quinde, INDECI Chief Omar Ramírez, and members of the Rescue Police.
The Ministry of Housing stated it will continue working with local authorities and relevant agencies to ensure timely support for those impacted by heavy rains in Ayabaca province.
