The Minister of Health inaugurated the new Hospital de Apoyo II-2 in Sullana on March 24, a facility that is expected to benefit more than 645,000 residents in the Piura region. The event is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen health services in northern Peru.

The opening of this hospital aims to improve access to medical care for a large population.

He also announced steps to ensure timely access to treatments nationwide.

During his visit to the region, the Minister inspected several facilities including Hospital III ‘José Cayetano Heredia’ and Hospital de la Amistad Perú-Corea Santa Rosa II-2. He noted improvements such as full budget transfers for 2026 and highlighted successful models from other hospitals: “El SIS ha transferido el 100 % del presupuesto 2026.

He also visited the site where the future Hospital de Alta Complejidad will be built in Veintiséis de Octubre district, which will serve over three million people. “En articulación con OPS/OMS, impulsamos mejoras que permitirán reducir significativamente los tiempos de diagnóstico, pasando de 15 días a solo 48 horas en la región,” he said.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to continue strengthening infrastructure and resources across Peru with an emphasis on regions most in need. These actions are intended to guarantee timely and quality healthcare while addressing historical gaps.
