The Ministry of Health and the Social Health Insurance agency will ensure the supply of insulin throughout 2026, according to a March 17 announcement by Minister of Health Juan Carlos Velasco. The measure aims to secure ongoing treatment for thousands of patients across the country.
This announcement is significant as it addresses concerns about access to essential medication for people who rely on insulin. Ensuring a stable supply helps prevent interruptions in care and supports public health efforts.
“Today I can announce that the problem with insulin in the country has been solved. More than 114,000 vials and units are available in all regions. In addition, we are acquiring 75,000 more. The stock of insulins is guaranteed for the whole year in Minsa and EsSalud,” Velasco said.
He also emphasized that both Ministry of Health and Social Health Insurance facilities are stocked with insulin, ensuring timely access to this essential medicine. “EsSalud, although it belongs to the Ministry of Labor, is also my responsibility. The Minister of Health will be attentive so that all insured persons have their medicine,” he said.
Velasco made these remarks during an event presenting eight remodeled operating rooms at Hospital Nacional Arzobispo Loayza. These new facilities will improve surgical care across more than ten specialized services including ophthalmology, otorhinolaryngology, pediatrics, traumatology, head and neck surgery, and maxillofacial surgery.
“The Hospital Loayza is my home, as I have always said. I congratulate the effort made by the State through Hospital Loayza by investing more than four million to strengthen surgical centers,” Velasco said.
The renovated operating rooms feature laminar flow ventilation systems with HEPA filters designed to create a sterile environment by removing contaminants from surgical areas. This technology significantly reduces infection risks during procedures.
