The Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM) announced on April 17 that more than 250 young people from the Junín region participated in the “XXXIX Taller de Integración Minera y Desarrollo Sostenible” (39th Mining Integration and Sustainable Development Workshop) held in Huancayo.
The event brought together students and graduates from public and private institutions, including those studying engineering disciplines such as mining, environmental, systems, electronics, chemistry, metallurgy, civil and industrial engineering. Participants also included students of social sciences, law, sociology, anthropology, social work, administration and economics.
According to MINEM’s Dirección General de Promoción y Sostenibilidad Minera (DGPSM), the workshop provided technical training on mining activities as well as sessions on social management of mining projects, environmental remediation efforts and personal development. The program also included entrepreneurship projects. She added that the event was organized at the request of academic leaders from local universities along with representatives from regional mining associations.
MINEM reports that DGPSM has conducted these workshops nationwide since their inception. With this latest edition included, over 3,600 students from more than 132 higher education institutions across Peru have been trained through these initiatives. In 2025 alone there were eight editions reaching over one thousand students.
The DSAM unit promotes various components under its national Mining Integration Program such as this workshop series along with programs like “Mujeres Mágicas,” Mining Internships and other informative sessions. These efforts align with MINEM’s commitment to fostering harmonious relations among sector participants while encouraging sustainable economic growth through policy guidance according to the official website. The ministry manages policies for both mining and energy sectors across Peru to support community relations while issuing regulations for sustainable practices according to the official website.
