The Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM) held a session on March 28 that brought together representatives from the executive branch, regulatory agencies, and transport unions to discuss responses to ongoing fuel price volatility.

This meeting aimed to find consensus and propose measures in light of fluctuating fuel prices, which have affected the national logistics chain. The dialogue was convened by Nilo Pereira, Vice Minister of Hydrocarbons at MINEM, and focused on two main topics: distribution of fuels and oversight of price changes.

Participants at the session agreed there is an urgent need for swift action to address the crisis caused by rising fuel prices. They highlighted that both market oversight and new policies are necessary to ensure stability within the transportation sector.

Strengthening regulatory bodies such as Indecopi and Osinergmin was also emphasized during the discussions. Attendees said it is important for these organizations to combat speculation and hoarding through field inspections and administrative procedures.

Officials present included Eloy Durán Cervantes, Vice Minister of Economy; Juan Haro, Vice Minister of Transport; Alberto Villanueva Eslava, Executive President of Indecopi; David Hernández Salazar, Executive President of the Urban Transport Authority (ATU); Ricardo Villavicencio from MINEM’s Directorate General of Hydrocarbons; as well as representatives from various transport unions.

The outcome signals a commitment among government officials, regulators, and industry groups to work collaboratively in addressing issues impacting Peru’s transportation sector.
