The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) presented on April 30 a methodological guide for the development of regional tourist protection plans to representatives from Regional Tourist Protection Networks across the country.

The initiative aims to strengthen national management of tourism safety by standardizing processes, improving inter-institutional coordination, and implementing more effective strategies to ensure security in tourist destinations. The new guide is expected to promote an orderly process based on evidence and decision-making.

The presentation took place during a workshop focused on strategic and operational processes related to tourism safety. “Tourism safety is a fundamental axis for the sector’s competitiveness and visitor confidence,” said Vice Minister of Tourism Aracelly Laca. She also said it is important to address this issue comprehensively through planning, coordination, and joint actions among involved institutions.

Laca said that lessons learned and tools shared at the workshop will help optimize management in different regions and strengthen response capabilities regarding current and future challenges facing the sector. She highlighted the key role of regional governments in carrying out concrete actions within their territories.

The event brought together representatives from 11 out of 25 invited regions’ Regional Tourist Protection Networks, who exchanged experiences and strengthened their ability to respond to risks that could affect tourism activity. Presentations were given by representatives from Indecopi, the Tourism Police, and DICAPI (Directorate General of Captaincies and Coast Guard).

According to the official website, Mincetur contributes to cultural progress by promoting sustainable tourism with social inclusion; it belongs to Peru’s Executive Branch with sector-specific autonomy; advances national strategies for trade expansion; falls under oversight of its minister; serves communities across Peru focusing on connectivity; collaborates with entities like PromPerú; directs policies fostering export growth since its establishment in 2002.
