The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) announced on Mar. 24 that it is conducting free workshops aimed at improving the quality of gastronomic tourism services in Peru’s marine-coastal zone. The initiative includes training sessions on customer service and basic cooking techniques for restaurant operators and related service providers.
The program is designed to strengthen the skills of entrepreneurs and tourism service providers, helping to enhance visitor experiences and boost the competitiveness of local destinations. According to Mincetur, these actions are being carried out in coordination with district municipalities, which are responsible for registering interested participants.
Workshops have already taken place in several districts: Aucallama hosted a customer service workshop on March 17 followed by a cooking techniques session on March 18; Santa Rosa held its respective sessions on March 19 and 20. In Ventanilla, the cooking workshop was conducted on March 23, with a customer service session scheduled for March 31. Upcoming events include Chancay’s cooking workshop set for April 6 and its customer service session on April 7, while Ancón will host both types of workshops on April 8 and April 9.
These efforts form part of Mincetur’s broader strategy to promote safe, formalized, and competitive tourism as well as stimulate local economies along the coastal strip. The ministry said these interventions align with its ongoing coordination activities among stakeholders in the region.
As part of the Plan de Reactivación de la Zona Marino Costera (Coastal Zone Reactivation Plan), Mincetur is also promoting formalization through mobile campaigns that provide personalized guidance to hotels, restaurants, travel agencies, and other tourism-related businesses.
