The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) led a key technical meeting in Puno for the development of the Southern Interoceanic Corridor, according to a March 23 announcement. The session, held on March 20, brought together public entities, business associations, and stakeholders involved in logistics and commercial operations across the country.

The meeting was chaired by Claudia Parra, director general of Foreign Trade Facilitation. Parra said it is important to strengthen inter-institutional coordination to boost commercial flows along this strategic regional integration route that connects Peru with Atlantic markets.

During the session, participants discussed progress on several high-impact projects aimed at improving competitiveness along the corridor. These included implementing the Iñapari Border Care Center; reinforcing the Tahuamanu Bridge and road safety works on section two of IIRSA Sur by the Ministry of Transport and Communications; as well as developing a highway in sector three of section five managed by concessionaire Covisur.

The group also highlighted advances on the San Román Dry Port project in Juliaca, promoted by ProInversión. This initiative—formalized through an agreement signed in February 2026 with both the Regional Government of Puno and San Román Provincial Municipality—will create a modern logistics platform under an asset-based project model. It aims to position southern Peru as a strategic hub for international trade.

According to Mincetur, this coordinated agenda reaffirms its role as facilitator for foreign trade by promoting investment, optimizing logistics processes, and generating more competitive conditions that support decentralized development and greater integration with international markets.

Participants included representatives from ministries such as Foreign Affairs and Production; Puno’s Regional Government through its Directorate for Foreign Trade and Tourism; National Port Authority; Sunat; Migration authorities; Senasa; ProInversión; Enapu; Dicapi; National Police; IIRSA Sur concessionaires; International South Terminal operators; ADEX business association; and Puno Chamber of Commerce.
