The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) held the “Support and Advisory Day for Business Formalization in the Tourism Sector – Cusco region” on March 23, organized together with the Regional Management of Foreign Trade, Tourism and Handicrafts of Cusco (GERCETUR Cusco) and the Provincial Municipality of Cusco.

The event aimed to bring together support services, advice, and training in one place so that both formal and informal tourism service providers could take steps toward formalization and strengthen their businesses. On the first day, which took place at Plaza Regocijo, various public entities provided personalized information on sector regulations, company formation, tax obligations, municipal licenses, registration of tourism service providers, labor issues, consumer protection, migration topics, and other key requirements for starting or maintaining a formal business in tourism.

Entities participating included Mincetur—through its Safe Tourism strategy and Somos Artesanía Public Contest—the Regional Government of Cusco (GERCETUR Cusco and Regional Labor Management), Provincial Municipality of Cusco, SUNAT (National Superintendency of Tax Administration), SUNARP (Public Registries), SUNAFIL (Labor Inspection), INDECOPI (Consumer Protection), MIGRACIONES (Migration Authority), MTPE (Ministry of Labor), National Police of Peru, PROMPERÚ (Tourism Promotion Agency) and CENFOTUR.

On the second day at GERCETUR’s auditorium in Cusco specialists from Mincetur as well as other institutions such as SUNAT; Provincial Municipality; GERCETUR; SUNARP; SUNAFIL; INDECOPI; MIGRACIONES; and SBS trained entrepreneurs from the region. They answered specific questions about how to start or strengthen businesses within a legal framework.

This initiative is part of actions promoted by Mincetur under its “Safe Tourism” strategy. The goal is to coordinate efforts with regional governments, municipalities and specialized agencies to fight informality in tourism services while improving security standards and competitiveness nationwide.

During the first day more than 900 queries were attended at information stands while 159 procedures for formalizing or regularizing tourism services were initiated. On the second day over 160 entrepreneurs received training.
