The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism, led by José Reyes Llanos, met with representatives from the Lima Chamber of Commerce on March 13 to discuss regulatory progress related to tourism, investment, and trade.
The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration between the government and the business sector to create a favorable environment for national competitiveness. During the session, Reyes Llanos presented updates on new regulations designed to support these goals.
One key topic was the approval of the Regulation for the New General Law of Tourism. This regulation aims to improve tourism management in Peru by emphasizing competitiveness, sustainability, safety, and governance. The process involved regional workshops in six cities and included input from over 300 participants representing regional governments, industry groups, municipalities, and academic institutions.
Participants also discussed the Regulation for the Law on Private Special Economic Zones (ZEEP), which sets out a framework for creating areas intended to attract private investment, promote industrial development, and diversify exports. Other issues addressed included improving air connectivity for passengers and cargo transport as a way to enhance tourism opportunities and facilitate trade with more destinations.
The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to ongoing dialogue with private sector partners in order to strengthen public-private coordination. The goal is to promote policies that support growth in foreign trade, investment, and sustainable tourism development.
