The Ministry of Agricultural Development and Irrigation (MIDAGRI) announced on Apr. 1 that the supply of food in Lima’s wholesale markets remains stable ahead of the long Easter holiday. The ministry said there is a greater availability of potatoes, green beans, beans, sweet potatoes, tangerines, pineapples, and oranges.
This update is important as it assures consumers and retailers that key food products are sufficiently stocked during a period when demand typically increases due to holiday preparations.
According to official reports from MIDAGRI, the combined entry of essential goods at Lima’s main wholesale markets reached 7,680 tons in the morning. This total includes supplies recorded at both the Gran Mercado Mayorista de Lima (GMML) and the Mercado Mayorista de Frutas No. 2 de La Victoria.
At GMML alone, 5,532 tons of products such as legumes, vegetables, and tubers arrived—an increase of 8.8% compared to the average for recent Wednesdays. The potato supply was reported at 1,650 tons—a rise of 10.1% over previous weeks.
Wholesale market inventories remain high with carrots priced at S/1.17 per kilogram; squash at S/1.43; long olluco at S/1.80; bagged lemons at S/1.86; huayro potatoes at S/1.93; serrana green beans at S/2.05; canchan potatoes at S/2.08; Yungay potatoes at S/2.13; yellow sweet potato at S/2.18; red onions at S/2.40 per kilogram among other items.
In La Victoria’s Fruit Market No. 2 alone this morning saw an entry of 2,148 tons with watermelons offered for as low as S/0.85 per kilogram alongside melons (S/1.29), bananas (S/1.43), Kent mangoes (S/1.50), apples (S/1.52), Valencia oranges (S/1.66), avocados (S/1 .73), papayas (S / 1 .88) and other fruits available for purchase by retailers or consumers alike.
The ministry also reported sufficient poultry supply to meet retail demand: live chicken was sold wholesale for an average price of S /8 .00 per kilogram while eggs were available for wholesalers starting from just above six soles per kilo.
MIDAGRI has launched a special online platform providing up-to-date prices on tubers , fruits , vegetables ,and more across both wholesale markets and selected retail outlets throughout Lima . Citizens can access this information through https://siea.midagri.gob.pe / portal / precios .
As preparations continue for Semana Santa celebrations in Peru , officials say these measures aim to help families plan their shopping while supporting transparency within local food markets.
