The Ministry of Agricultural Development and Irrigation (MIDAGRI) announced on March 19 that more than 12,000 tons of essential food products were supplied to Lima’s main wholesale markets. The ministry said the supply included a variety of vegetables, tubers, fruits, and other staple foods.

This update is important for both merchants and consumers as it reflects the steady flow of food supplies into the capital’s markets. MIDAGRI reported that a total of 12,113 tons were delivered to the Gran Mercado Mayorista de Lima (GMML) and the Mercado Mayorista de Frutas No. 2 in La Victoria. Of this amount, GMML received 9,501 tons consisting mainly of legumes, vegetables, and tubers. Additionally, there were 2,220 tons of potatoes and their varieties.

At the Mercado de Frutas No. 2 in La Victoria alone there was an entry of 2,612 tons of fruit—an increase of 1.1% compared to the average over the last four Thursdays—with main offers including watermelon (S/0.88/kg), coquito melon (S/1.04/kg), bizcocho banana (S/1.33/kg), regular apple (S/1.46/kg), Valencia orange (S/1.75/kg), papaya (S/1.77/kg), Israel apple (S/1.83/kg), native avocado (S/1.88/kg), bellaco banana (S/2.22/kg), Italia grape (S/2.28/kg), purple prickly pear (S/2.33/kg), satsuma mandarin (S/2.40/kg), golden pineapple and granadilla both offered for S/2.65/kg.

The ministry also confirmed that poultry supply was sufficient to meet demand from retailers and consumers alike: live chicken was sold wholesale for an average price of S/8.10 per kilo while eggs were available for wholesalers for about S6/.40 a kilo.

MIDAGRI has made available a special online platform developed by its technical team to provide updated information on prices for tubers, fruits and vegetables in both wholesale markets and selected retail outlets across Lima: https://siea.midagri.gob.pe/portal/precios.
