The Ministry of Agricultural Development and Irrigation (MIDAGRI) announced on March 17 that more than 10,000 tons of essential food items were delivered to wholesale markets in Lima. The ministry said this increase includes a variety of products such as carrots, sweet potatoes, potatoes, papayas, pineapples, grapes, and others available for consumers and traders.

This update is important as it reflects the current supply levels in Lima’s main wholesale markets and provides transparency about food availability and pricing for both sellers and buyers.

According to official reports from MIDAGRI, the total supply reached 10,425 tons across the Gran Mercado Mayorista de Lima (GMML) and the Mercado Mayorista de Frutas No. 2 de La Victoria. At GMML alone, 7,842 tons of goods including legumes, vegetables, and tubers arrived—an increase of 0.8% compared to the average for the last four Tuesdays. Potato deliveries at GMML totaled 2,470 tons.

Wholesale prices reported by MIDAGRI included carrots at S/0.73 per kilogram; bagged limes at S/1.06; squash at S/1.45; red onions at S/1.60; Yungay potatoes at S/1.88; yellow sweet potatoes at S/2.00; green beans at S/2.38; Katia tomatoes at S/2.62; yellow potatoes at S/2.93; purple sweet potatoes at S/3.00; yellow cassava at S/3.25; Cusco-type corn at S/3.27; green canary beans at S/4.18 per kilogram among others.

At Mercado de Frutas No. 2 de La Victoria, fruit arrivals totaled 2,583 tons—a rise of 1.5% over recent averages—with watermelons selling for S/0.88 per kilogram and other fruits like melons, bananas, apples, oranges, papayas, avocados, grapes and mangoes also listed with their respective prices.

Poultry supplies were described as sufficient to meet demand in Lima’s distribution centers where live chicken was sold wholesale for an average price of S/8 per kilogram while eggs were priced at S/6.40 per kilogram.

MIDAGRI has also launched a special online platform providing updated information on product prices in both wholesale markets and selected retail outlets throughout the city: https://siea.midagri.gob.pe/portal/precios.
