The Ministry of Agricultural Development and Irrigation (MIDAGRI) announced on March 20 that almost 10,000 tons of food products were supplied to wholesale markets ahead of the weekend. The ministry said this included a variety of items such as cassava, sweet potato, onion, watermelon, tangerine, melon, and others.
This update is important for consumers and vendors as it reflects the current availability and pricing of essential food items in Lima’s main wholesale markets. It also helps ensure transparency about market supply levels and supports informed purchasing decisions.
According to official reports from MIDAGRI, the total supply at major wholesale markets in the capital reached 9,543 tons. This figure combines data from the Gran Mercado Mayorista de Lima (GMML) and the Mercado Mayorista de Frutas No. 2 de La Victoria. At GMML alone, there was an entry of 7,225 tons of products including legumes, vegetables, and tubers. Additionally, there were 1,888 tons of potatoes in various varieties delivered.
Wholesale prices for key products included carrots at S/0.67 per kilogram; bagged lemons at S/1.11; macre squash at S/1.50; red onions at S/1.63; huayro potatoes at S/1.90; Yungay potatoes at S/1.90; green broad beans at S/1.93; yellow sweet potatoes at S/1.95; long olluco at S/2.33; unica potatoes at S/2.40; peruanita potatoes at S/2.43; yellow cassava at S/2.85; yellow potatoes at S/2.93; Cusco-type corn at S/2.98; purple sweet potato at S/2.98; Katia tomatoes at S/3.33; American green beans at S/3.83; and green canary beans at S/5.25 per kilogram among others.
At Mercado de Frutas Nro.2 de La Victoria, fruit arrivals totaled 2,318 tons with notable offers such as watermelon for S/0.85 per kilogram and melón coquito for S/1.02 per kilogram.
Poultry supplies were also sufficient to meet demand in Lima’s distribution centers with live chicken selling wholesale for an average price of S/8.10 per kilogram while eggs sold for around S/6.45 per kilogram.
MIDAGRI has made available a special online platform developed by its technical team that provides updated information on prices for tubers, fruits, vegetables and other products both in wholesale markets and selected retail outlets across the city: https://siea.midagri.gob.pe/portal/precios.
