The Ministry of Agricultural Development and Irrigation (MIDAGRI) announced on March 16 that the week began with an increased supply of essential food items in Lima’s wholesale markets. Key products available include potatoes, tomatoes, green beans, melons, apples, and pineapples.

This update is important for consumers and retailers as it reflects the current availability and pricing of staple foods in the capital’s main distribution centers. The information helps both groups make informed decisions about purchasing and selling fresh produce.

According to official reports from MIDAGRI, a total of 9,330 tons of essential goods arrived at Lima’s major wholesale markets this morning. This figure combines data from the Gran Mercado Mayorista de Lima (GMML) and the Mercado Mayorista de Frutas No. 2 in La Victoria. At GMML alone, 7,065 tons of legumes, vegetables, and tubers were delivered—13.4% more than the average for the last four Mondays. Potato deliveries reached 1,145 tons at GMML, which is a 13.6% increase compared to recent weeks.

Wholesale prices for key products included carrots at S/0.81 per kilogram; bagged limes at S/1.03; macre squash at S/1.45; red onions at S/1.60; Yungay potatoes at S/1.85; huayro potatoes at S/1.88; yellow sweet potatoes at S/2.05; unica potatoes at S/2.08; green broad beans at S/2.08; peruanita potatoes at S/2.13; long olluco tubers at S/2.20; American green beans at S/2.33; Katia tomatoes at S/2.64; yellow potatoes at S/2.95; purple sweet potatoes at S/3.00; Cusco-type corn cobs at S/3.21; yellow cassava roots at S/3.23; and canary green beans at S/4.13 per kilogram among others.

At La Victoria’s Fruit Market No. 2, arrivals totaled 2,265 tons of various fruits such as watermelon (S/0.88/kg), coquito melon (S/1.04/kg), bizcocho bananas (S/1.36/kg), regular apples (S/1.45/kg), Valencia oranges (S/1.81/kg), Israel apples (S/1.85/kg), criolla avocados (S/1.88/kg), papayas (S/1.88/kg), bellaco bananas (S/2.22/kg), Italia grapes (S/2.23/kg), purple prickly pears (S/2.38/kg), satsuma mandarins (S/2.40/kg), golden pineapples (S/2.72/kg), granadillas (S/2.73/kg), Hawaiian pineapples (S/2.95/kg), tangelo oranges from Selva region (S/3/kg), Edward mangoes (S /3 .35 /kg ), and Alfonso lavalet grapes (S /3 .58 /kg ).

Poultry supplies were also sufficient to meet demand from retailers and consumers alike: live chicken was sold wholesale for an average price of S /8 .00 per kilogram , while eggs were available to wholesalers for S /6 .40 per kilogram .

MIDAGRI has launched a special online platform developed by its technical team that provides updated information on prices for tubers , fruits , vegetables , and other products in both wholesale markets and selected retail outlets across Lima . The public can access this resource via https://siea.midagri.gob.pe /portal/precios .

The continued monitoring by MIDAGRI aims to ensure transparency in market conditions so that citizens have reliable data when making food purchases.
