The Ministry of Agricultural Development and Irrigation (MIDAGRI) announced on March 27 that the supply of food to wholesale markets in Lima Metropolitan area has surpassed 10,000 tons ahead of the weekend. The ministry highlighted that products such as tomatoes, green beans, potatoes, sweet potatoes, avocados, oranges, pineapples and others are available for both traders and consumers.
This update is important as it assures residents and vendors about the steady availability of essential foods at major markets. MIDAGRI said that a total of 10,148 tons were supplied to Lima’s main wholesale centers this morning. This figure combines deliveries reported by the Gran Mercado Mayorista de Lima (GMML) and the Mercado Mayorista de Frutas No. 2 in La Victoria.
At GMML alone, officials recorded an entry of 7,760 tons including legumes, vegetables and tubers—an increase of 2.5% compared to recent Fridays. The supply included 2,710 tons of potatoes across various types—13% higher than previous four Fridays—with high stock levels maintained overall.
Prices for key items at GMML ranged from S/1.19 per kilogram for bagged limes to S/4.38 per kilogram for green canary beans. Other notable prices included carrots at S/1.25 per kilogram and American green beans at S/4.33 per kilogram.
Meanwhile, Mercado de Frutas No.2 received 2,388 tons of fruit with watermelons priced at S/0.83 per kilogram and mango Edward at S/3.80 per kilogram among other offerings.
Poultry supplies also met demand: live chicken sold at an average wholesale price of S/8.10 per kilogram while eggs were offered at S/6.28 per kilogram.
MIDAGRI has launched a special online platform developed by its technical team to provide updated information on prices for tubers, fruits and vegetables in both wholesale markets and selected retail outlets across Lima; this service is available to the public via https://siea.midagri.gob.pe/portal/precios.
