The Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation announced on Apr. 29 the launch of the “Dialogue for Water Governance in Peru,” an inter-institutional event aimed at promoting cooperation, transparency, and improved management of water resources. The event was inaugurated by Felipe Meza, Minister of Agricultural Development and Irrigation, and brought together representatives from public and private sectors as well as international organizations such as the Organization of American States, UNESCO, Inter-American Development Bank, and various embassies.
The ministry said this initiative is important because it aims to reinforce the role of water management and security in sustainable development for Peru. Water is described as a key factor for agro-food systems and productive processes throughout the country.
“From the Government, through MIDAGRI, we are convinced that coordinated work around water governance becomes a fundamental pillar to ensure sustainable development for the country,” Felipe Meza said during his remarks at the opening session.
Meza also emphasized collaboration among government agencies, private sector actors, international cooperation partners, and civil society. “Let us remember that without water there is no development, there is no production and there is no well-being for our population. This implies not only strengthening our technical and institutional capacities but also coordinating efforts between the State, private sector, international cooperation entities and civil society,” Meza Millán said.
