The Ministry of Agricultural Development and Irrigation (MIDAGRI) announced on March 23 that it is implementing emergency interventions through the Jaén San Ignacio Bagua Special Project (PEJSIB) to address the effects of heavy rains in the regions of Amazonas and Cajamarca.

These actions are intended to reduce risks caused by rainfall, protect crops, and support farming families. MIDAGRI said these efforts are part of Supreme Decree No. 003-2026-PCM, which guides emergency response measures for affected areas.

Among the main activities, MIDAGRI highlighted riverbank protection along the Utcubamba River and Huarango Pampa canal in Bagua Grande. These works will help safeguard 300 hectares for the benefit of 80 families. In addition, interventions in Misquiyacu Bajo, located in Cajaruro district, aim to protect another 120 hectares for 50 families.

Further cleaning and desilting operations are underway at Tataque creek in Huarango sector. This work is expected to protect an additional 500 hectares serving around 100 families. Similar efforts extend to Papaya Baja sector in Utcubamba province, where about 150 hectares will be protected for the benefit of approximately 120 producers.

According to MIDAGRI, “these interventions reduce vulnerability to flooding and erosion processes while ensuring continuity of agricultural activity.” The ministry also said these initiatives reaffirm its commitment—along with PEJSIB—to work closely with local authorities toward strengthening agricultural development.
