The Ministry of Health deployed a specialized mental health team on March 18 to provide psychological support to families impacted by a landslide in the Santa Cruz sector of Ayabaca province. The response was coordinated through the Sub-Regional Health Directorate “Luciano Castillo Colonna” as part of efforts to address emergencies caused by heavy rains in the area.

The initiative aims to offer timely assistance to those affected, particularly focusing on emotional well-being after natural disasters. The intervention was organized by the Community Mental Health Center Señor Cautivo de Ayabaca, working together with local authorities and community actors.

During their visit, the mental health brigade provided Psychological First Aid to families who lost property or experienced significant emotional distress due to the landslide. The team offered emotional support, psychological containment, and guidance in an environment marked by vulnerability. These actions are intended to help reduce the emotional impact caused by landslides and related incidents.

In addition, the Community Mental Health Center organized a solidarity effort to deliver community aid directly to affected families. This approach reinforces the health sector’s commitment to comprehensive care that includes mental health support during emergencies.

The Ministry of Health said it will continue strengthening its mental health response for emergencies and disasters, bringing specialized services closer to vulnerable populations and ensuring timely support for their emotional recovery.
