A 68-year-old man donated his organs and tissues, resulting in four patients receiving life-saving transplants, the Ministry of Health (Minsa) announced on March 28. The donation was made possible after the man’s family respected his wishes as stated on his national identification document.

This case highlights the importance of organ and tissue donation for those waiting for transplants. It demonstrates how a single donor can significantly impact multiple lives.

The Ministry of Health said its Directorate General of Donations, Transplants and Blood Bank (DIGDOT), along with the National Procurement Coordination Office, led the process to ensure all operations and transfers were completed efficiently.

The procedures took place at Hospital María Auxiliadora. The corneas were transplanted into patients at that hospital to restore their vision. Both kidneys were transported under strict safety protocols to benefit two recipients at Edgardo Rebagliati Martins National Hospital operated by EsSalud.

Minsa reiterated its commitment to promoting organ and tissue donation across the country.
