The Ministry of Agricultural Development and Irrigation announced on March 30 that Lima’s main wholesale markets recorded a supply of more than 9,000 tons of food at the beginning of the week. The available products include potatoes, green beans, tomatoes, mangoes, pineapples, and papayas.
This information is important for residents and retailers in Lima as it reflects stable access to staple foods and helps consumers monitor price trends.
According to official reports from the ministry, total incoming volume reached 9,353 tons when combining figures from both the Gran Mercado Mayorista de Lima (GMML) and the Mercado Mayorista de Frutas No. 2 in La Victoria. At GMML alone, there were 6,919 tons of legumes, vegetables, and tubers received—a figure that is 4.4 percent higher than the average for the past four Mondays. Potato varieties accounted for 684 tons with high stock levels maintained.
Some key prices reported at GMML included carrots at S/1.33 per kilogram; macre squash at S/1.38; bagged limes at S/1.83; olluco largo also at S/1.83; canchan potatoes at S/1.75; serrana green beans at S/1.95; huayro potatoes at S/2.05; yellow sweet potato at S/2.23; Yungay potatoes at S/2.33; unique and peruanita potatoes both priced around S/2.43 per kilogram.
At Mercado Mayorista de Frutas No. 2 in La Victoria, fruit arrivals totaled 2,434 tons—5.9 percent above recent averages—with watermelon offered as low as S/0.80 per kilogram alongside other fruits such as melon coquito (S/1.21), bizcocho banana (S/1.44), Edward mango (S/1.50), criolla avocado (S/1.71), Valencia orange (S/1.73), papaya (S/1.92), Israel apple (S/2.20), golden pineapple (S/2 .53) among others.
The ministry also reported sufficient poultry supply to meet demand from retailers and consumers alike: live chicken sold wholesale averaged S /8 .10 per kilogram while eggs were priced around S /6 .25 per kilogram.
