The National Institute of Quality (Inacal), part of the Ministry of Production, announced on March 14 that it is making available 15 technical documents—seven Peruvian Technical Standards and eight Peruvian Guides—to help consumers identify safe, reliable, and quality products in the market.

These resources set out criteria for safety, quality, labeling, and consumer information. Inacal said these tools aim to ensure that products meet internationally recognized standards and build greater confidence among buyers. The organization also said this initiative supports a culture of quality that strengthens the market and enables citizens to make informed and secure purchasing decisions.

Household consumption remains a key driver of the economy. In 2025, mass consumption in Peru grew by nearly two percent, reflecting a recovery in family spending and an increased search for products that combine price, quality, and safety. This data comes from Worldpanel by Numerator. Projections for 2026 estimate growth between two percent and three percent in household consumption, highlighting the importance of clear information and technical tools for responsible purchasing decisions.

Among the new standards are guidelines for product safety (NTP-ISO 10377:2015), procedures for product recalls (NTP-ISO 10393:2017 revised in 2022), considerations for vulnerable consumers (NTP-ISO 22458:2023), as well as several standards addressing aging societies (NTP-ISO series). The guides include recommendations on providing clear consumer information (GP-ISO/IEC 14:2018 rev. 2024), instructions for use (GP-ISO/IEC 37:2014 rev. 2019), packaging design (GP-ISO/IEC 41:2020), comparative testing (GP-ISO/IEC 46:2017 rev. 2022), safety aspects especially related to children (GP-ISO/IEC series), use of symbols on labels (GP-ISO/IEC 74:2014 rev. 2019), and service standard development focused on consumer needs (GP-ISO/IEC 76:2021).

All these technical documents are available free of charge through Inacal’s Virtual Reading Room at https://salalecturavirtual.inacal.gob.pe:8098/. The release aims to support consumers with accessible resources as they navigate an evolving marketplace.
