Hospital Nacional Dos de Mayo, part of the Ministry of Health, announced on March 18 that it will partner with the non-governmental organization Operation Smile to conduct a surgical campaign for patients with cleft lip and palate. Patients from various regions are expected to travel to the hospital to receive specialized care.
The campaign is scheduled for March 19, 20, and 21 at the hospital’s facilities. Organizers plan to treat an average of 10 to 12 patients each day. The effort will include support from international medical specialists as well as a multidisciplinary team from the hospital.
According to the announcement, Hospital Dos de Mayo aims to improve patient quality of life through these initiatives. The hospital said such campaigns not only change appearances but also bring hope and smiles back to many Peruvian families.
This partnership highlights ongoing efforts by public health institutions and non-profit organizations in Peru to address congenital conditions like cleft lip and palate. By providing free surgeries, they seek to reduce barriers for families who may otherwise lack access to specialized treatment.
The hospital reaffirmed its commitment “to continue promoting actions that allow us to improve the quality of life of patients, with the conviction that these types of campaigns not only transform faces but also return smiles and hope to hundreds of Peruvian families.”
