The Minister of Health, Juan Carlos Velasco, visited the National Institute of Neoplastic Diseases (INEN) on March 17 to supervise the supply of medicines and review the operation of the pharmacy and oncology services.
This visit aimed to ensure that cancer patients continue receiving their treatments without interruption. During his inspection, Velasco confirmed that stock levels for medicines are above 90 percent, including in critical areas such as intensive care and hospitalization.
“No patient should suffer because of a lack of medication. Today, 25 percent of patients still have out-of-pocket expenses, and that is something we must eradicate. I will not allow patients to pay for oncological or any other disease-related treatments,” Velasco said.
He also said that rapid working groups have been set up with EsSalud to address issues related to medicine supplies and guarantee an immediate response if there is any risk of shortages.
“The principles of Seguro Integral de Salud (SIS) and EsSalud are quality, timeliness, and accessibility. Based on these principles, we are working hard to ensure care for all patients,” Velasco said.
Velasco announced he will continue visiting health facilities nationwide to strengthen the health system.
