The Regional Government of San Martín announced on March 16 that health brigades will carry out a campaign to identify and eliminate potential breeding sites for the Aedes aegypti mosquito, which transmits dengue. The initiative is being coordinated with the Provincial Municipality of Moyobamba and other institutions.
The campaign is scheduled for Friday, March 20, starting at 7:00 a.m., and will cover the neighborhoods of Lluyllucucha, Asociación Alto Mayo, Calvario, Palmeras, Jardines, Belén, Túpac Amaru, Indañe, Zaragoza, and Santa Clara. This action is part of the “Dengue Prevention and Control Plan 2026” presented by the Ministry of Health.
The Regional Health Directorate (Diresa) San Martín has called on residents to participate by identifying and removing unused containers or objects that can collect rainwater and become mosquito breeding grounds. Items such as bottles, buckets, cacao shells, coconut shells, egg shells, bottle caps, tires, cans, and others are considered potential risks.
For this effort, the Alto Mayo Health Services Management Office will deploy teams made up of health personnel, local authorities, and support staff who have been trained to identify breeding sites. These teams will also educate residents about recognizing symptoms and warning signs of dengue.
