FISI opens academic year 2026 and welcomes new students at ceremony

The Faculty of Systems Engineering and Informatics (FISI) at Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos held its opening ceremony for the 2026 academic year on Apr. 17, welcoming new students from various professional schools within the faculty.

The event took place in the FISI auditorium with attendance from Rector Dr. Jeri Ramón Ruffner, Dean Dr. Luzmila Pro Concepción, Vice Dean of Research and Graduate Studies Dr. Carlos Navarro de Paz, Vice Dean of Undergraduate Studies Mg. Augusto Cortez Vásquez, as well as directors, faculty members, students, and parents.

During her speech, Pro Concepción offered best wishes to incoming students in Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, and Artificial Intelligence programs. She encouraged them “to approach this new stage with discipline, perseverance and commitment,” emphasizing that the university will provide them with necessary tools for their professional development.

Rector Jeri Ramón Ruffner said that entering university is a unique opportunity to build a future with vision and purpose. She highlighted both student effort and family support: “Being a Sanmarquino is not just about holding a title but about taking on a commitment to the country based on effort, service vocation and building a permanent university identity.” Ruffner also noted that new entrants are joining “a community with tradition and leadership where ideas are generated that contribute to society’s development” while pointing out international agreements and global recognition strengthening student education.

At the ceremony authorities recognized eleven top-performing students from different schools in the recent admissions exam. Representatives from UNMSM’s Language Center awarded an English language scholarship called “Beca Cachimbo” to three FISI students who excelled in admissions.
