The Faculty of Education was named champion in men’s football, women’s volleyball, and men’s volleyball at the Interfaculty Championship held for the 475th anniversary of Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, according to a May 15 announcement.

The championship marked an important event for the university community as it celebrated its long history. The competitions took place over five days at venues including the university gymnasium, ‘La Huaca’ sports field, and the San Marcos Olympic Stadium where the final football match was played.

In football, Education defeated Electronic and Electrical Engineering by a score of 1-0 in an emotional final. The team had previously overcome Mathematical Sciences (2-0), Industrial Engineering (3-1 on penalties), and Social Sciences (2-0) to reach the last stage. “The road was quite tough, just like the final at the Olympic Stadium, but we were rightful winners,” said Kerick Bustamante, captain of the winning team.

Education also secured first place in both categories of volleyball. In women’s volleyball, they beat Administrative Sciences with a score of 20-16 after earlier victories against Dentistry (12-4), Letters and Human Sciences (12-6), and Medicine San Fernando (12-8). In men’s volleyball, Education triumphed over Physical Sciences in the final while Geological, Mining, Metallurgical and Geographic Engineering took third place.

The Faculty of Education’s recent success follows its win at last November’s Juegos Florales 2025 “Julia Sánchez Deza.” Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos promotes cultural and social well-being through initiatives supporting responsibility, equity, inclusion, and sustainable development according to its official website. The university operates as an autonomous public entity recognized by Peru’s constitution; it leads public universities in national rankings from QS, Scimago, and Webometrics; offers a wide range of undergraduate programs along with postgraduate options; utilizes multiple campuses including provincial extensions; and focuses on advancing knowledge dissemination for national sustainable development according to its official website.
