The Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Defense transported 200 people, including teachers and their families, from Pucallpa to the district of Purús on March 27. The operation aimed to ensure that classes begin on time in one of Peru’s most remote areas, which is accessible only by air.
This initiative seeks to benefit more than 1,300 students across 41 educational institutions in the border region of Ucayali. The coordinated effort involved support from the Regional Government of Ucayali as well as local education authorities.
“The commitment of our teachers to the education of children and adolescents in the country is admirable. From the Ministry of Education we will continue working so that they can reach even the most distant areas and guarantee thousands of students’ right to education,” said Minister of Education María Esther Cuadros.
For this transfer, beneficiaries were identified through collaboration between national and regional education offices along with local government agencies. This action forms part of an agreement signed in February between the two ministries, which will allow more than 300 teachers and their families to be relocated to remote border zones during this school year.
Broader implications include improved access to education for students living in isolated regions. Authorities say these measures are necessary so all children have a chance at regular schooling regardless of geography.
