The General Directorate of Environmental Health and Food Safety (Digesa) of the Ministry of Health participated in the “Second Meeting of Regional Permanent Multisectoral Commissions on Food Safety (COMPIALES)”, aiming to improve inter-institutional coordination and territorial management in food safety, according to an April 20 announcement.
The meeting is significant as it brings together different government agencies to ensure safe food production and public health. The event gathered representatives from 13 regional COMPIALES, with a total of 18 commissions currently operating nationwide. This shows progress in establishing coordinated groups for managing food safety across Peru.
During the session, participants discussed guidelines to strengthen technical skills, standardize intervention criteria, and promote joint actions for better monitoring, control, and promotion of food safety. These efforts take into account regional differences and emerging challenges within production chains.
The Annual Work Plan for 2026-2027 was also presented during the meeting. It sets commitments focused on improving sanitary management and supporting the production of safe foods that benefit public health.
Digesa said these multisectoral spaces help consolidate a territorial approach to managing food safety by encouraging coordination among various levels of government and stakeholders involved in the food chain.
The Ministry of Health confirmed its commitment to continue strengthening governance in food safety, contributing both to public health protection and sustainable development.
