The Dirección de Asuntos Estudiantiles (DAES) at Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú announced on March 19 that it is strengthening its network of external psychotherapists to improve mental health services for students. The initiative aims to provide faster, more reliable, and affordable psychological care through a validated directory of professionals.
This development is significant as it addresses the growing need for accessible mental health support among university students. By expanding the network, DAES seeks to reduce barriers to care and ensure that students receive timely assistance tailored to their needs.
According to Lic. Amparo Seminario, head of the Office of Psychological Wellbeing at DAES, “The referral directory allows students to access external psychological care more quickly, reliably, and affordably.” Seminario also said that this system helps strengthen mental health support throughout a student’s academic journey.
A coordination meeting was held on February 26 with 34 psychotherapists and representatives from 14 psychological centers included in the referral directory. During this meeting, various university offices shared information about available services and supports for the student community. Dr. Waldo Mendoza, academic vice-rector, participated in the event and highlighted the importance of coordinated efforts in consolidating a comprehensive mental health support system for students.
Each professional in the network is required to have clinical training, experience with university populations, ethical credentials, and be officially licensed. The directory is updated annually and offers both in-person and virtual modalities to accommodate student preferences and schedules.
Students seeking more information about referrals or psychological care can contact the Office of Psychological Wellbeing at bienestarpsicologico@pucp.edu.pe or schedule an appointment through the Medical Cloud platform.
