The Ministry of Education announced on March 11 that the Beca 18-2026 program is now open for pre-selected applicants, offering funding to begin undergraduate studies at a range of public and private institutions. The program, promoted by the National Scholarship and Educational Credit Program, covers both academic and non-academic costs for all years of study.
This initiative aims to expand access to higher education for Peruvians who have demonstrated academic excellence. Minister of Education Erfurt Castillo said, “Beca 18 está dirigida a los peruanos que hayan alcanzado la excelencia académica, con el fin de ampliar el acceso a la educación superior e impulsar el desarrollo nacional.”
Applicants can choose between technological education at institutes or schools—which typically lasts three to four years—or university studies with a minimum duration of five years. Technological programs focus on practical skills needed by productive sectors for rapid job placement, while university programs are more academically oriented and research-based.
For those interested in teaching basic education, there is an option to study Education at Pedagogical Higher Education Schools. This path takes about five years and grants both a bachelor’s degree and a professional teaching title, with opportunities for further specialization.
During the selection stage of Beca 18-2026, additional points will be awarded to candidates entering high-demand careers as identified by the Occupational Demand Survey (EDO), especially in technological institutions or those applying under the Children of Teachers modality who choose Education or Pedagogy specialties. Priority will also be given to those enrolling in public universities or high-demand fields at private universities.
Applicants who do not secure a spot during the first selection phase can participate again from April 6 to April 27. Further information is available through official channels such as Facebook, WhatsApp, or the program’s toll-free line.
