BBVA Peru outlined on May 5 the key details about bank account numbers, including their structure, uses, and how customers can access them. The information is aimed at helping clients understand the differences between various banking codes and how to manage transactions securely.

Bank account numbers are unique identifiers assigned to each customer with an account, such as savings or checking accounts. These numbers help ensure that accounts are easily identified and not confused with others. The length of a bank account number varies by financial institution but typically includes 10, 13, 14, or even 18 digits.

The International Bank Account Number (IBAN) consists of 24 characters: the first four relate to the IBAN code—two letters for the country and two control digits—while the next twenty represent the local bank code (CCC), which further breaks down into codes for the banking entity, branch office, control digits for validation, and finally ten digits for the actual account number. BBVA Peru emphasized that knowing these details helps avoid confusion during transactions and enables efficient payments within or between banks.

For customers wishing to find their BBVA Peru account number, options include online banking via web or app platforms where both account numbers and interbank codes are visible; calling customer service at (01) 595-0000; or visiting a branch in person. The institution clarified that an account number differs from credit or debit card numbers in both format and function.

When making transfers within BBVA Peru using only an account number, transactions are immediate. For transfers between different banks or internationally, clients must use either a Código de Cuenta Interbancaria (CCI), which has twenty digits for domestic interbank operations with variable processing times depending on transfer type; or a SWIFT code—an alphanumeric identifier used globally—which in BBVA Peru’s case is BCONPEPL.
