Among those recognized from Arequipa are Honorio Delgado Espinoza, a psychiatrist and philosopher who received the award in 1965 in the Amauta category, as well as Everardo Zapata Santillana, creator of the widely used literacy book “Coquito,” who was honored in both 1981 (Educator) and 2004 (Amauta). More recently, Alejandra Lucía Hurtado Mazeyra was recognized in 2024 for her innovative work using technology in early childhood education.
